Growth and Morphological Characteristics of Asp376Glu Mutation in AHAS-Resistant and-Susceptible Yellow Burrhead (Limnocharis flava (L.) Buchenau) Populations

Herbicides are considered the most effective weed management approach in world. Acetohydroxyacid synthase (AHAS, EC 2.2.1.6) is widely used due to its advantages crop selectivity, effectiveness control broad-spectrum weeds and low mammalian toxicity has become one of popular herbicides by farmers. The overreliance on same over years led evolution herbicide resistance several species, including Limnocharis flava (L.) Buchenau among resistant species rice fields Southeast Asia. This been reported develop bensulfuron-methyl (AHAS inhibitor). study aims determine morphological characteristics susceptible L. populations comparing growth development plants. Results showed that Asp-376-Glu mutation AHAS gene Flava-resistant population exhibited significantly stronger (dry weight) or no different impacts as compared fresh weight, height, epicuticular leaf area. insignificant differences were observed structure morphology R S plants which appears have possible fitness cost population. confirmation between AHAS-resistant emphasizes crucial for application controlling Flava populations.
